Xerox 6100 printer reviews and information

If you are looking to purchase a new printer may I be so bold to suggest that you stop your search now and look no further than the Xerox Phaser 6100? No you say, ok, why I don't I explain why you should listen.

I work from home, and have been using the Phaser 6100 now for 6 months to mainly print of bulk letter projects, color charts and general pages from the internet. I would say that my printing is probably above average, sometimes printing over 500 pages a day. Since I have owned the printer, it has only needed one routine service and two replacement toner cartridges, so in its favor it has reliability.

This is not all though readers, the Xerox Phaser 6100 is both a black/white and colour printer combo that really doesn't take up much space when you consider the size of such gigantic machines as the HP Laserjet 4. It's actual dimensions, taken using my trusty plastic ruler are:

Width - 40 cm

Depth - 35 cm

Height - 26 cm

It you can visualize this in your minds eye, it isn't very big at all really.

So, it's reliable, it doesn't take up much space. How fast does it print from a standing start? Well, the official specification give timings of 4 pages per minutes in color and 16 pages per minute in black and white. These figures are obviously taken after the printer has been running for a while, the truth is that you get 3 ppm in colour and 11 ppm in black and white. Still not bad going though and it doesn't take an age for it to warm up. The first page prints off within about 30 seconds so it won't let you down when you are in a rush.

Print quality is superb in both colour and black and white. There is never any smudging of the colours and photographs and pictures are always clear. They are not the same quality as the pictures produced by the Kodak Easyshare Printer Dock but they are of a high end quality and can't be grumbled at.

What else can I tell you about this printer? Well, the tray is big enough and holds up to 150 pages of A4 paper. What confuses to though is that the top finisher tray only holds 100 pages so you can't set it to print 150 pages without going back to move some as they come off. Annoying, but not really a flaw as far as I'm concerned.

Installation is simple. It is just a case of installing the driver and hooking the printer up to the network or PC using the USB cable. If I can do it, anyone can.

So, for £150, the price I paid for my Phaser 6100 you06 could do a lot worse. This is a great printer. I rarely big up technical products, but I just couldn't help myself with this, I'm impressed that much.

The Xerox 6100 printing quality is very good in both colour or black and white even in draft mode. The unit is compact and simple in design. The print speed in black and white is adequate for home use but might be a bit slow for business use. Colour is too slow for anything other than a few copies. The Xerox 6100 is very reasonably priced and compares favorably with other similar printers speech wise.

Downside is the small paper tray (250 sheets) and no add on available. Initial toner seemed to run out quickly and replacements a bit expensive and difficult to obtain as they are new type. I found the machine a bit noisy to use and takes an age to start from sleep mode. Waste toner bottle constantly "full" unless you shake it.
