Investigator Brought In For Australian Toner Scandal

The Primary Industries Department in Australia has taken on a private investigator in order to get to the bottom of the toner cartridge scandal in the country.

Currently, in the scandal that has gripped Australia, 41 government agencies have become embroiled in the mire over the purchase of printer ink cartridges at heavily-inflated prices in exchange for gifts from companies.

A recent State Parliamentary Committee heard that Primary Industries staff have already identified 134 invoices from suspected suppliers over a four year period. It is believed that the investigator is a former police officer.

Opposition frontbencher Rob Lucas wasn't convinced, telling ABC News: "The body that should be conducting an investigation isn't a collection of private investigators.

"It should be the Auditor-General who should be conducting a comprehensive independent inquiry."

The news website reports that almost $1 million was paid to suspected suppliers for toner and ink products over the course of the scandal.
