Environmental group launches ink cartridge recycling scheme

An environmental group has joined forces with schools to recycle old ink cartridges.

An environmental group has joined forces with schools to recycle old ink cartridges and mobile phones as part of a scheme that aims to reduce the number of items ending up in landfills by ten per cent and raise £5 million for UK schools.

The Support Your School programme is being run by Environmental Business Products (EBP) and will pay each participating school £1 per ink cartridge and £3 per mobile phone submitted for recycling, pcpro.co.uk reports.

Each year millions of empty ink cartridges are thrown into the rubbish, but recycling them has become an increasingly popular method for school and charities to raise funds and keep green.

Allison Parkes, Support Your School programme manager, told the website: "Each year millions of empty ink cartridges are thrown into the rubbish, ending up in landfills or incinerators."

The news comes recently after Healthy Pets Insurance company was honoured for the second year in a row in a sustainable business awards line-up for its work in recycling ink cartridges.
