Food Printer Makes A4 Food A Reality

A new 3D food printer has been developed that can churn out culinary delights in an instant.

The cutting-edge technology forgoes traditional printer ink cartridges in favour of syringes filled with liquidised foodstuffs - including raw ingredients.

Developed by scientists at Cornell University's French Culinary Institute, in Manhattan, the printer is already up and running and researchers believe that within the next five years, the 3D food printer could be found in people's kitchens alongside their microwaves, blenders and coffee frothers.

Speaking to CNN Money, David Arnold, director of culinary technology at the French Culinary Institute, said: "One of the main things I hope this machine will let us do is create new textures that we couldn't get otherwise."

"In terms of making icing or decorations, this thing can perform amazingly well," he added.

Recently, technology blog If It Prints, I'll Let You Know claimed that 3D printers can boost productivity in the workplace - this might not be the case if they are used to instantly create biscuits, however.
