Britons Confused By Their Cameras

Britons Confused By Their Cameras

We Brits may be able to load ink cartridges into our printers and perform a simple change to our computer's network preferences, but when it comes to digital cameras it's quite another story.

New research from Samsung shows that more than a third (37 per cent) of Britons under-use their cameras because of confusion over functionality, more so than mobiles or laptops.

Some 24 per cent of people say they feel worried when their camera throws up a display they don't recognise and 13 per cent admit they are so unsure of how to work their camera they simply pass it to someone else for them to take the photos.

Furthermore, when it comes to key camera functions, many Brits are unaware of them.

Some 27 per cent of respondents to Samsung Digital Imaging's survey don't know about built-in flash functions, 35 per cent are unaware of the delete function and 48 per cent don't know the red eye reduction options many cameras have.

It's not a great time of year to be un-savvy when it comes to camera functions, either – the firm's research shows that 74 per cent of people plan to take lots of festive photos. And when one in ten accidentally manage to delete the photos that they do take, perhaps it's time we wised up!

Commenting on the research, Damien Demolder, editor of Amateur Photographer magazine, said: "Technology has really leapt forward in the last few years – perhaps in photography more than in any other area of electronics. But the results of this survey show that despite this, photographs may not be as good as they could be!"

Recently, Samsung launched what it said was the world's smallest laser printer, the Samsung SCX-3201.
