Bosses Office Excess Revealed

Most bosses' offices are pretty bog-standard, perhaps with a desk, chair, computer, printer and, if they're lucky, some room to keep spare ink cartridges.

But a new survey of employees shows that 31 per cent of workers  think the boss has an extravagant office, with some unusual items cropping up.

Workers questioned by office design company Maris Interiors revealed the most common office excess is artwork (17 per cent).

One business surveyed has a Picasso, while one hotel boss gazes up at an original Andy Warhol every day.

For five per cent, the boss had plenty of gym equipment in their office, from weights, treadmills and even exercise bikes.

One boss took luxury a step further with an en-suite sauna and one bank chief enjoyed a rooftop garden equipped with a hot tub.

"We're quite surprised by some of these findings," Maris Interiors chairman Michael Howard said.

"I'm not sure I'd want to have a meeting with someone and all the time be picturing them in the hot tub! Or maybe they hold their meetings in the hot tub?"

Of course, one shouldn't take such employee surveys too seriously. Judging by office terminology research commissioned by HR firm Reabur, 14 per cent of employees thought "time off in lieu" meant time spent in the loo, while nine per cent thought "blue sky thinking" meant working outside in the car park.
