3D Printers Boost Office Productivity

Using a 3D printer can boost productivity in the workplace, it has been claimed.

While the technology is still in its infancy, new 3D machines are starting to appear on the market. At the recent Las Vegas trade show CES, several printers were unveiled, including the Thing-O-Matic, which can produce small 3D models.

The cost, though, may put off some firms from adopting them. 3D printers are currently on sale for around £1,000. But according to the technology blog If It Prints, I'll Let You Know, the initial outlay for a 3D device will be easily recouped through the efficiency it brings.

According to the blog, there are several ways 3D printers can improve workplace efficiency.

Engineering and architecture firms, for example, can use 3D printers to build their scale models and prototypes of future projects. This means models no longer have to be made manually, freeing up a portion of work time that can be directed to other tasks.

Secondly, flexibility can be improved. If there's a problem with a design, a 3D printer can quickly alter it, the blog says.

Finally, if a firm is looking to jazz-up its marketing strategy, a 3D printer can be used to make scale models to show to potential clients. "You can be assured that your projects will push through and that you can complete them ahead of time," the blog says.
