Rare Pens Increasingly Sought After Collector Claims

Rare Pens Increasingly Sought After Collector Claims

A luxury fountain pen, which comes pleated with horsehair, is being sold for $3,500 (£2,144) by a German luxury goods business.

Faber-Castell is offering the limited edition fountain pen as part of its Pen of the Year promotion, Reuters reported.

Each year the company, which was set up in 1761, launches a new pen made from a rare material.

Previous years have featured pens manufactured from Indian satin wood, mammoth ivory and olive tree wood

Count Anton-Wolfgang von Faber-Castell, chief executive of the company, told Reuters that collectors are increasingly clamouring to own the pens.

"It is becoming more and more difficult to put together a collection of all of the Pens of the Year."

The pen is plated with platinum and has an 18-carat gold nib.

Faber-Castell's standard price for the pen is $3,500 although clients who want a pen with hair made from their own horse can place a bespoke order for an estimated $8,000.
