Police Explode Ink Cartridge Bomb

A suspect package exploded by police in Allentown, Pennsylvania, turned out to contain ink and toner cartridges.

The suspicious package aroused suspicion after being found at the city's PPL centre, the Morning Call news reported.

Allentown's bomb squad was called in after the centre and surrounding buildings were evacuated when a small, white package was found near some flower beds outside the centre.

Police Captain Stephen Mould said to the news site: "What was in that package was an ink toner cartridge … and they [the bomb squad] believe it may have been part of a mailing [or sales promotion]."

Fire officials were called in to move the package to be X-rayed, but after inconclusive results were drawn concerning the box's contents, the bomb squad detonated the package in a controlled explosion.
