No Ink Printer Launched

A revolutionary new printer which does not use traditional ink cartridges has been launched.

The new unit, by Zink, marks the second generation of the company's no-ink printers, allowing for more paper sizes to be used.

Zink's printers contain paper embedded with dye crystals in the traditional ink cartridge colours of yellow, cyan, magenta and black.

When printing begins, the paper passes along a strategically heated surface which melts certain crystals to create the image.

Zink hopes that this new style of printing will be used to embed small printing units which utilise its technology into digital cameras and mobile phones.

The company also manufactures the paper which it utilises for its printing method and Zink-based mobile printer ranges available from computer giant Dell.

Digital cameras with Zink-based printers built into them are available from Takaratomy and Polaroid.
