With more business initiatives focusing on improving green credentials of the workplace, it will come as a shock to some that the majority of firms do not know their printer ink consumption.

That is according to echannelline.com, which suggested that print optimisation could help businesses improve the amount of resources lost on printing.

Omri Duek, a consultant at InfoTrends, was quoted by the website as explaining that managed print services can help customers to reduce their paper usage and lengthen the lifespan of toner cartridges.

"Most businesses have no idea how many pages they print or how much toner and ink they use," he said.

Echannellinel.com also suggested that printing can be made more sustainable by restricting the amount of colour ink used and routing documents to the most efficient printers.

Meanwhile, Scarborough County Council has revealed that it saved thousands of pounds on printing by encouraging ink efficiency among its workers.
