Managed Services Driving Printer Market

Companies around the world are increasingly outsourcing ink printing to companies such as Xerox and Hewlett-Packard (HP), giving a boost to the office machine-making industry despite the difficult economic climate, it has been revealed.

The Wall Street Journal cites figures from market researcher Photizo Group, which shows that world-wide managed print services will reach $20.3 billion this year, up 47 per cent from the previous 12-month period.

James Joyce, Xerox's head of managed printer services, told reporters: "It's going crazy. We're drinking from a fire hose. It is now the driving force in the overall market."

Caroline Basyn, a managed print services manager at Proctor and Gamble said that a new project making use of machines able to print on both sides of a piece of paper has reduced their use by three million sheets and cut energy usage by 40 per cent.

This week, HP expanded its business printing portfolio in Ireland with the release of three new models - the LaserJet Enterprise CP4525, the Professional CP5225 and the LaserJet Enterprise P3015.
