Couple Convicted Of Selling Fake Cartridges Online

A couple have been found guilty of selling counterfeit ink cartridges on internet sites eBay and Amazon over the last two years.

Andrew and Ying Budgen, from Cranleigh in Surrey, sold over 900 Epson and HP cartridges on the online sites.

They were found by the court to have amassed "a criminal benefit of around £200,000".

The court discovered that the couple had brought all the goods, which also included 17 boxes of Braun toothbrush heads, from China and marketed them on marketplace site eBay and Amazon as legitimate ink cartridges, even though the products were fakes.

They were both sentenced to four months in jail, suspended for two years, and were ordered to complete 200 hours of community service.

Mr and Mrs Budgen were also ordered to pay their "realisable assets" as fines for the money they accrued during the scam. Mr Budgen was ordered to pay £4837.50 while his wife was fined £16,338.58.
