Brother MFC 6890CDW Sticks With Ink Cartridges

Brother's new MFC-6890CDW is able to offer businesses a relatively cheap A3 printing solution because it makes use of conventional printer ink instead of toner cartridges.

That is according to its review from IT Pro, which suggested that inkjet technology was used in the multifunction printer to keep costs low enough for smaller businesses to afford.

As well as costing less upfront, the MFC-6890CDW is also cheaper to run thanks to the fact that its ink cartridges can be replaced without the need for a new print head, as is the case when toner is replenished in a laser printer.

The website also noted that high-yield cartridges are economically priced at under £9 for each of the 750-page colour ink cartridges and £17 for a 900 pages of black ink.

However, it warned that the printer can be quite slow to perform, particularly when providing specialist scanning and imaging tasks.

"We like the range of features on offer but the speeds from this machine were not impressive and we feel most businesses would be better served by an inexpensive mono laser for day-to-day printing."

Last week, Canon's Pixma MX860 was praised by the Computer Shopper for offering an all-in-one solution that runs "solid, reliable and easy to use".
