Printing Firm Vital In Creating YouTube Hit

A printing firm has claimed that it was its used ink cartridges and printing technology that was used to create characters from internet-hit Back to the Start.

The animation has had over two million YouTube hits and was also named as one of the top commercials of the year by AdWeek in a recent poll and Stratasys has said its Dimension 3D Printing made it possible.

Praised by all quarters, the advert tells the story of a farmer who gradually becomes more sustainable in his work practices and Bob Thorne, senior visual effects supervisor for the video's visual effects, told of his views.

Mr Thorne said: "The beauty of using the Dimension 3D Printer for this project was that we could produce exact replicas of the animatic drawings, rather than guessing about sizes and details as we might have done with hand-sculpted models."

Back to the Start has won praise from creative arts leaders, sustainability experts and pop culture gurus for its fresh, engaging approach.
