Look to Long Term Costs of Printer Ink, Expert Says
Both business and home users have been urged to look beyond just the up-front cost of a printer ink cartridge. Acknowledging the fact that many users are still disgruntled by the cost of printer ink, especially when the cost of printers themselves has been steadily falling over the past few years, a new report for the South African technology site ITWeb has advised the need to take a comprehensive look at outgoings and potential savings.
Speaking to the site, Lexmark's managing director for South Africa Mark Hiller explained that the cost of printer ink cartridges usually goes beyond the 'shelf price', with corporate and personal users advised to consider the yield that they will generate.
For example, a 20ml cartridge in one printer can often deliver a poorer long-term yield than a 15ml cartridge in a rival machine.
"From a consumer perspective, you have to consider the cost per page," he said. "When buying a printer, see whether it gives you the functionality you need, and weigh up what the costs are going to be going forward."
