Ink Cartridge Yield Reporting Needs Improvement

Ink cartridge manufacturers need to start labelling the ink volumes of their units, according to an IT expert

Methods need to be developed to allow consumers to measure the amount of ink they use and how quickly they go through ink cartridges, it has been suggested.

"The real issue for me is that everyone prints different kinds of output, but it seems that no one has an easy way to keep track of how much ink and paper they've used," said Taeho Lim of Cartridge News.

His comments follow remarks from the US National Conference on Weights and Measures, which recently met and discussed the issue, calling on printer and ink cartridge manufacturers to do more to adequately label their products with how much ink is in them.

Mr Lim added: "Maybe there are engineering issues I don't know about, or maybe the technology already exists, but it seems like a reasonable solution for people and businesses that print a consistent amount of output over extended periods [to know how much they use].
