A publication has championed the benefits of recycling.

The Exeter Express and Echo suggests there are so many things that can be recycled which are not being - including mobile phones and printer cartridges.

It says: "Both mobile phones and printer cartridges can be recycled for reuse, thus reducing the environmental burden on landfill sites and offsetting some of the energy consumed in their manufacture."

What is more, recycling such products such as ink cartridges can help those less fortunate, as money raised can be given to charity.

According to London Remade, public awareness of recycling and waste issues has "increased greatly" over the last few years.

Alice Rowlinson, a spokesperson for the organisation, said increased advertising of recycling schemes has helped to bring green issues to the forefront of people's minds.

She added that a number of organisations and councils are now working harder to meet public demand for information.
