Those consumers having trouble deciding between whether to purchase a laser printer or an inkjet printer may be interested to discover what the environmental impact of discarder toner cartridges is.

A blog posting on Cheap Ink Cartridges suggests that toner cartridges from a laser printer last much longer but that the environmental toll of using toner cartridges is "extensive".

The blog reveals that manufacturing and producing one laser toner cartridge requires almost a gallon of fossil fuels, while it estimates that once discarded at a landfill a toner cartridge can take up to 450 years to decompose.

The author said: "Once discarded a single laser toner cartridge becomes 3.5 points of solid waste. To put this in perspective, you can compare that to the weight of 112,463 Volkswagen Beetles each year."

Ink cartridges can be expensive to purchase, which is why it is essential to always recycle the goods, as it can save money and help to reduce the negative impact on the environment.
