Canon Moves Up Business Week Global Rankings

Printer and ink cartridge manufacturer Canon has moved up Business Week's global list of the best brands by three places in the organisation's annual rankings.

According to Canon, the company has moved from 36th to 33rd in the 100 Best Global Brands 2009 list.

Canon, which produces printer ink and toner cartridges, was placed at 36th in the table during 2007 and 2008.

James Leipnik, chief of communication and corporate relations for Canon Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: "Despite a tough year for the global economy, Canon has continued its strategy of investing in innovation.

"We are very pleased to see that Canon has moved up in the 100 Best Global Brands, a reflection that the Canon brand remains strong in spite of the current economic challenges."

To qualify for the rankings a brand must make a third of its earnings from outside its home country and have publicly available marketing and financial data.

Canon recently announced it is working with HP to combine multifunction devices with new printing options.
