A new bill could be on the verge of sealing approval in the US relating just how transparent ink cartridge manufacturers are when it comes to their products and printing ink capabilities.
According to Paul Mulshine, in a blog for the Star Ledger, a bill is planned to go up for discussion in Assembly Chambers which would require sellers ink cartridges to state how many pages the ink cartridge in question can print openly.
Assemblyman Gary Chiusano is sponsoring the bill and he commented to Mulshine: "Some of these ink cartridges only print 200 pages."
It is these sorts of figures which have caused the bill to be made more prominent with Mr Chiusano adding that "there's so little ink in some of the damn things that the cost exceeds the ink's weight in gold."
According to Mulshine's report, the bill would make it illegal to sell a printer without information indicating the average cost per 1,000 printed pages for black text and also, if applicable, colour printing.

According to CBS Money Watch, the use of GreenCloud, a printer driver, could be the key for both homes and businesses to make substantial savings on printing and costs of ink cartridges.
GreenCloud is a device for Windows which can make it easier to dramatically reduce the amount you print, leading to ink cartridge, paper and energy savings.
According to the site, GreenCloud can display a new print preview window each time you print so that you can simply click on the pages you want to cut from the job rather than printing over the odds.
A section of CBS' article reads: "GreenCloud doesn't really deliver anything you couldn't do, with effort, already.
"But the program brings together so many options in a convenient form that you'd have to truly hate money and loathe trees not to see immediate benefits with GreenCloud."
It also enables users to enjoy an 'n-up' control which allows the printing of two or four pages on a single sheet in a much simpler fashion than normal.

A more novel use of ink cartridges has been seen in Nisqually Red Wind Casino in Washington state with thanks to the launch of the new EpiCentral print system.
The system offers casinos the ability to dish out instant promotions and rewards to customers playing the slots based on play and history patterns while they have been at the casino.
It is intended to act as a replacement for the old method of sending loyal players promotions and rewards in the mail once they have already left the casino.
Bart Shuldman, chairman and chief executive officer of printer manufacturer Transact, told Hartford Business: "Our machine is turning the slot machine into an attended transaction when right now it is a non-attended transaction.
"One extra minute of play is like a million dollars to the casino."
While the custom ink printer is geared toward the casino market, TransAct is said to be considering offering the technology to other customers such as retailers.

Ink expert and writer Joel Arnold has penned a number of insights as to the benefits available for companies who use recycled ink cartridges as part of their business operations.
Writing in the Ecopreneurist, Mr Arnold suggested that there are a number of benefits for companies who use recycled ink materials, not just for the company itself but for the environment also.
Among the benefits listed by Mr Arnold for buying recycled cartridges are a decrease in expense when compared to buying new cartridges each time.
According to Mr Arnold: "Recycled ink cartridges generally cost up to 70 percent less than name-brand new ink cartridges."
As well as cheaper prices, recycled ink cartridges are also much better for the environment while they also have a longer life span than those if a brand new variety.
In addition Mr Arnold suggests that many companies who sell recycled ink now offer guarantees on their products while also ensuring that a wide variety of products are available.

Students at Tennessee University in the US are to be the subject of a new scheme which aims to cut down on the amount of toner and ink cartridges that are used.
A new printing system has been introduced which will put an end to free printing on campus, with students now needing to swipe student cards to release jobs as well as to pay for the job.
A Pharos Uniprint system has now been installed with students, faculty and staff all being given a 250-300 printer ink page quota every semester. Charges will be accumulated once that quota is exceeded with students printing over the allowed quota being charged via their Eagle card.
Student Sarah Williams told The Oracle: "I've started bringing my iPad to class to download PowerPoints and take notes from that, but there are professors who don't allow iPads or laptops.
"I understand Tech wanting to go green, but not at the cost of making the lives of broke college kids more difficult."

The BBC is on the lookout for people who would be willing to take part in a televised discussion on ink cartridges.
Computeractive has been asked to put feelers out for the BBC in the hope that consumers will be willing to step up to the plate and discuss the hot topic of printer ink cartridge prices.
A full schedule of topics has not been unveiled as yet although the corporation has stated that a number of angles will be explored. This could mean lively discussions aplenty on durability, cost per page and reliability of various ink cartridges.
Those interested in airing their views on the subject will need to be available for filming at the BBC's studios in Stratford, London, on February 7th. Anyone interested in being involved in the project have been asked to get in touch with Lyndsay Rowan at the BBC.

A blog written for Consumer Search's website has shed light on what printer ink consumers need to look out for if they are to avoid paying over the odds for ink cartridges.
The blog suggests that it is not simply a question of dividing the cost of the cartridge by the number of pages that it can print. In fact, what consumers should be doing is thinking more about what they print.
The blog also suggests that it is worth keeping in mind that the ink cartridges which printers come with are not always filled to the brim and are not as good value as the standard brand new cartridges that you would buy normally.
The blog reads: "Regardless of the claims of number of pages per toner cartridge, by reducing the resolution of the printing and saving high resolution for publishing your final draft, you can increase the number of pages that the ink will yield."
According to the blog, the most reliable information about page-per-toner-cartridge is provided with those from Hewlett-Packard and Samsung.

Convenient and quick ink printing will be a top tech trend in 2012, according to PC Advisor which said that the latest printer models hitting shelves this year will all suit people's fast-paced lifestyles today.
It highlighted options from HP, Epson and Canon which come with 'touch and go' printing capacity and enable people to simply set a job up and then go about their other business while the printer completes the task.
As smartphones and tablets become ever more popular both among personal and business users, a lot of the technology emerging in the coming months is geared at making it easier to print from such gadgets.
"One of the most exciting innovations is the capacity for printing on the go from a smartphone, laptop or tablet device using Google Cloud Print-enabled apps that include popular online tools including Gmail and Google Docs," the tech news provider stated.
Earlier this week, it was reported that HP has announced a new range of printers with a Wireless Direct feature which makes it easier to print from a wireless device.

Green printing can lead to substantial cost savings if implemented properly, it has been claimed. According to Ramnath Iyer, chief technology officer at CRISIL, such initiatives are a vital part of any green IT strategy.
"Green printing can bring value directly to the organisation and its adoption will only increase in coming years as it would be among the most talked about initiatives within green IT," he told Express Computer Online.
The key to implementing a good green printing strategy is to start simple, such as by introducing a network printer rather than having one for every team within an office.
That way it is easier to keep track of what is being printed. Ink cartridges recycling programmes are another great way to make printing a bit more environmentally friendly.
Putting up signs discouraging waste printing is another effective method which can result in workplaces saving paper and printer ink.
A study by Xerox recently highlighted that the average office worker prints 10,000 pages per year and wastes 1,410 pages.

A Darwin-based printer company has shown that it's not just recyclable ink cartridges which can help aid ink's impact on the environment after winning an award for its green credentials.
Coleman's Printing has become the most environmentally friendly printer in the Northern Territory, thanks to four years of tracking its environmental practices and, as such, has achieved a level two certification from Sustainable Green Print.
The company has, so far, recycled enough paper to save more than 4,000 trees in the past 18 months while it has also reduced the amount of landfill waste it creates by a massive 50 per cent.
Coleman's printing manager Tony Coleman, told NT News: "By recycling paper, we are also reducing the amount of oil used in the paper manufacturing process, and as a result of our initiatives we have saved enough fuel to travel around the world 14 times."
Coleman's is one of just 30 printers in Australia to receive the accreditation.
