Epson is part of the Seiko Epson Corporation based in Japan. Founded in 1942 they created the world’s first electronic mini printer in 1975. Epson released their first inkjet printer in 1993 and its descendents are the Epson's found many homes today. Epson inkjet printers use their patented Micro Piezo technology. This uses electric pulses to propel ink onto the paper where as other manufacturers heat ink to propel it onto the paper. Micro Piezo technology is expensive and as such is separate from the consumable ink cartridges. Generally this means that Epson cartridges are cheaper than competitors (where consumers must replace the cartridge and the head).
