| Epson's history spans over 100 years with a heritage that began in watch-making and led to the invention of the world's first quartz watch. In 1968, Epson produced its first printer, the EP-101, and has since lead the way in the worlds printer market, innovating and improving modern printers. Introduction The Epson R240 is the new photo printer from Epson, with the ability to use the USB cable with the computer and print with the CF card slot is very useful. It’s relatively new and has an easy to use, even though it’s too small, LCD screen which is very good quality. Appearance. The printer has an excellent streamline design which is extremely stylish, it is also quite compact and is easy to carry around if you are moving a computer. There are also very few wires only a USB, which is only used if printing from a computer, and a power cable which is essential. The printer also has a cover for the front, which manages to keep all the ports, and the cards, safe from damage. Instructions/Ease of installation The instructions are very helpful and were useful when installing the printer for the first time. The CD was quite difficult to install and was very confusing as to what I did and didn’t need. It was very easy to wire up and the lack of wires made it very easy. Usability. The printer is extremely easy to use and I have found it much easier than other printers. The LCD screen is far too small, but that is the only real fault that I can find with the product. I find the buttons extremely easy to use and I think that they should have made the buttons smaller and the LCD screen bigger. It was very easy to use a CF card with, and it has other ports for all the major memory cards. The USB was very easy to use and I sent the pictures to the printer with ease. So far, I haven't had to use the manufacturer support so I cannot really comment. Performance I find the picture quality to be of a very high standard every time I use the printer and the ink consumption is very slow considering the quality. I find the pictures to be around photo lab quality, but an awful lot cheaper and easier to do. The photo adjuster program in the printer on the LCD screen is relatively easy to use, but can be difficult as it is hard to see the picture. The printer is quite fast but takes a long time to warm up for the first print, after this it is very fast especially when printing photos in Black and White. The color is also shown very well, and there is an excellent contrast between the colors. Value For Money/Comparison to Competitors. I paid £79.99 for my printer, although I expect that you can buy them for a lot less than that now. I think that the printer is excellent value and I would probably expect to pay £89.99 if I had seen it before. I think that compared to most of the other brands in the price range, the Epson R240 is the best, I used the Lexmark photo printer first and found that to be of less quality and a lot harder to use, the printer was also less economic. Summary/Opinion I found this to be an excellent printer which does everything that I want. It could do with a scanner but this would add too much size to the printer and it wouldn’t look as refined. My only criticism of the printer is the size of the LCD screen, most competitors have much larger screens but aren’t as useable. Overall I would give the printer 8.8/10, purely because it is so easy to use, and because the quality is so good for such a compact printer. I f you are printing pictures more than documents then this is for you, with printing documents, the quality isn’t as good and the ink is used up far more readily. I have never had any problems with the printer and it always works. Thank you for reading this review and I hope it was helpful |
