| Download Your Driver Here Read Customer Product Reviews Here I purchased this Epson DX3850 3in1 inkjet printer, scanner and photocopier in a 'my dissertation needs printed and my printer has died!!!' emergency and I can say with great honesty that it is the best printer I have ever purchased. Its main benefit being its adaptability. Although its speed may not be as rapid as many other printers on the market (18ppm mono and 9ppm colour) it loses no quality (5760 x 1440dpi mono and 5760 x 1440 dpi colour). Its copying speeds are slightly slower but as fast as you would require in a home environment (12ppm mono and 4ppm colour) with a quality of up to 600dpi. Scanning speeds and quality depend on the nature of the subject but are rapid in my opinion and of high quality. It prints and copies using 4 separate ink cartridges allowing a much greater ink economy enabling the replacement of one at a time. It will not, however, print at all when one colour tank is empty (but this is the case with all the Epson printers I have had previously). The genuine Epson ink comes in at around £7.00 per cartridge but you can buy compatible cartridges for much less (although these will invalidate your warranty). The colours produced are excellent in all modes but the quality is perhaps slightly lower in the colour photocopy mode. The Epson DX3850 is extremely straight forward to install and even easier to use in a function modes. It will print, scan, photocopy and enlarge or reduce in both mono and colour with sizes of up to A4. It will also use a variety of mediums including transparencies, envelopes, cardboard and various paper types. The machine is very reliable and is designed in a manner that makes it easy to use for a range of user abilities. It has a sleek design but my one complaint is its rather bulky size (width 43cm depth 35 cm and height 17.5 cm) but this appears to be standard for machines of this variety. It is worth it for the extra benefits of a 3in1 printer. The instructions available with the printer are actually rather limited but after following the very easy 'Quick install' function, any information you would require is available on the printers help function on the computer. Here all your questions are answered easily. The properties page of the printer is very well laid out and allows easy modification of the printing setup and a excellent ink volume monitor to let you know when you are going to run out. This Epson DX3850 printer is excellent value for money. When I purchased it I paid £69.99 but this price has come down substantially making there virtually no difference in the price of this excellent 3in1 and other exclusively inkjet printers on the market. Full review I love it! I had previously used cheap and cheerful printers, but got fed up replacing them so often when they would break down and feeding them with expensive ink. So I decided to splash out and get something that was good quality and would last. The Epson DX3850 printer itself was expensive for me, but well worth it. Cartridges are ok and much better value if you buy a pack of four, however I do occasionally have to buy a black on its own. The ink cartridges last a lot longer than if you just have two - one black, one colour. In the long run its cheaper. The only slightly annoying thing is that when one cartridge runs out, it wont print, even in another colour, until the empty one is replaced. But, there is a monitor which lets you know your ink levels each time you print, and it gives the option of combining other colours to extend the life of the low level one - I've found this handy to use up some blue and save some black. A little hint about the cartridges - when it tells you they are empty, take them out and give them a good shake before putting them back in - sometimes you can get a few more pages! I could not live without a Epson DX3850 3 in 1 now! The printing is excellent, quality is high enough for professional documents, so is perfect if you work from home, its fast, and will print on any type of paper, card, labels, envelopes, overheads and so on. The paper is supported well so it doesn't fall to the floor, and it has a clever thingy to hold the paper neatly as it is fed through making what you print straight! Copying can be a little slow to get started, its nothing like as fast as a professional copier but great for use at home when you don't need 100 copies of everything. All you have to do to copy is press one button! Scanning is also good. Colours are excellent, and better than some more expensive printers I have used. It also has the option of black and white or colour. Being a scanner/copier the top of the printer is flat, so its handy for resting paper and things on it. Its not overly huge, the scanner bed/copier comfortably fits documents a little over A4 size. Getting it out of the box and up and running is very easy and fast. Basically, run the CD, plug it in and your off! It does not take long before you know how to use it perfectly and confidently. I recommend it fully, its the best I have ever owned, and even if you think you don't need a 3 in 1, you will soon find uses for it! This Epson DX3850 has been the bane of my life and why I didn't return it to the store that I purchased it from within hours of buying it is beyond me. The paper feed is the biggest nightmare, the printer just does not grip the paper thus you have to jump up and feed the paper through if this doesn't work then you get an out of paper message on the computer, and before you know it you are caught in a loop of trying to print the document, jumping back and forth to the printer aahhhhh. O yeah and when you finally get the document to print, low and behold all the text is squint. As for scanning, for some reason the is no scanning button on the printer, so you have to use it through a picture program on the computer i.e. windows photo gallery (mom yeah like that works) On the plus side the ink is cheap to replace but as the printer doesn't print properly half the time I would hardly consider this as a bonus. Anyway I hate this printer with a vengeance so much so that I have just bought another printer and it is not an Epson. This Epson DX3850 printer is a bad buy. The company is squeezing out money from the consumers of this printer. The cartridges are so costly that three times buying of the cartridges makes the price of the printer. The cartridges hold so little ink that it does not print even the pages it says. It takes long to print, noisy. If a cartridge is put in it shows reading that there is ink in the meter but if for any reason cartridges taken out and reset it shows the ink level low although it is believed to have enough ink in it. Its absolutely waste of money to buy this product. Its also a trap of frequent purchase of the cartridges than the expected result. The ink dries very quickly if not used for a little long time. Not recommended at all. Its my great mistake to buy this Epson DX3850. |
