Dell has released new environmentally-friendly ink cartridges International electronics manufacturer Dell has launched its new range of ink cartridges. Dell NextLife Ink is made from recycled ink cartridges so as to minimise waste as the firm suspects that approximately 400 million ink cartridges are dumped in landfill sites in the US alone every year. It is estimated that if only one per cent of these were recycled in a similar way to Dell's new ink cartridges, then it would be a carbon footprint saving equating to the planting of roughly 15,000 trees. Dell has unveiled an A4 printer which claims to be the fastest of its type in the world. The Dell 5130cdn, which is available with printer ink immediately, can produce as many as 45 pages per minute in either colour or black and white, V3.co.uk reports. In addition, the ink cartridge manufacturer has launched the 7130cdn, Dell's first colour A3 printer, which hits the market on December 8th. Dell's European imaging business manager Stephen Burt told the website that the company's printers are proving a hit with customers. "We now have a fairly complete line of printers, from low-end USB mono personal printers, up to A3 and fast A4. These models essentially complete our range," he commented. The 7130cdn can print up to 150,000 pages per month, while the 5130cdn can support 110,000. Each printer has a differing capacity, the 7130cdn has a 600-sheet drawer, while the 5130cdn has a 550-sheet drawer. Earlier this month, Dell introduced the Photo All-In-One, a printer adept as producing photographs in addition to acting as a copier and fax machine. Office equipment and computing firm Dell has released what it claims is the world's fastest laser colour printer. The 5130cdn is said to be able to print up to 47 single-sided pages per minute (ppm) and 37 double-sided ppm in both monochrome and colour ink. Dell also boasts a low cost and energy efficient solution by decreasing the core fusing temperature of the printer's toner. This means that the 5130cdn has a printing cost of approximately 7.71c (4.59p) per colour print and 1.04c for each black and white print. As well as this, the printer's high productivity level allows for a monthly duty cycle of up to 110,000 pages. Mike Arterbury, global director of commercial software and peripherals at Dell, said: "Dell has always focused on efficiency, reducing costs and increasing productivity for businesses of all sizes, and today we have extended that same winning formula to the printing world." He added: "Our portfolio of printers provides customers with valuable and affordable choices and low cost of printing, saving them time - and real money."
