The Canon MP460 is a great value machine and works really well, with super features for the price (in Argos less than £50). The problem is that the Canon original cartridges are so expensive, that you can buy a new printer for the price of just one set of replacement Canon cartridges! No one seems to make compatible versions either. I have seen quite a few web-sites saying that you can refill the cartridges, so I may try that, which would be better.
Delighted with all functions of the Canon MP460 but obviously the manufacturers can keep the printer prices low because of the massive profits from the sale of ink cartridges.
I agree that the replacement cartridges are very expensive for my Canon MP460. Other than that the printer is good. I have used the replacement ink refills which have proven good especially for photo prints, but by choice I would rather use replacement cartridges at a more economical price.
I have got through a few printers in my time, but the canon mp460 which has been the best printer so far.! It is cheap and cheerful, all singing all dancing, so why are the ink cartridges so expensive?. I can fill my car up with petrol for less than the price of one black and one colour cartridge, and today that is saying something! As doing photography as a hobby, I find it increasingly difficult to afford the amount of ink I need, but what choice do I have?. There does not seem to be a cheaper version or is there?. Very good printer shame about the ink!
I received my MP460 as a gift for purchasing a laptop. Prior to this I was happy with my Pixma4000. However, I was happy that the MP460 was also a scanner which would be useful to me. I did allow the printer to stay unpacked for a year. I am very happy with the printer, however, I found it difficult to find the cartridges the first time having to replace them. After visiting many stores, I finally found a store and they had only one which came with the black, color, and photo paper as a set. To my dismay when I saw the price I almost fell over. I had no choice but to buy it. I don't know what makes these cartridges so costly. Needless to say, I will go back to using my Pixma4000 and use the MP460 as a scanner only when needed.
