The MP180 is an efficient machine but uses an awful lot of ink. I use my MP180 with my home computer for letters, articles, and some photographic work, and even -50 and-51 high-capacity cartridges last barely a month, and I don’t do that much printing. I do get the impression that every time you click on print, the machine whirls away for about 15-20 secs, preparing to print, and I do wonder just how much ink is being used in this process, preparing the nozzles, etc.? Things have improved from a cost point of view since I started having my cartridges refilled professionally, but I still get through one or two of each cartridge a month.
