Demand for colour ink cartridges is set to keep on growing over the next few years, the sales and marketing chief of Brother has predicted.
While many home consumers are still wary of splashing out on colour printer ink, the technology giant is confident that this will soon be as affordable as black and white printing.
Indeed, the company has lent its support to the view expressed in a recent report from Context, namely that the costs of mono and colour printing are set to be equal by 2015 at the latest, with technology retailers, as well as consumers themselves, set to be among the biggest beneficiaries of this trend.
"There is a proactive selling opportunity here, where the channel can contact these customers ahead of when they would have otherwise made a purchase, explain to them the benefits of switching to a colour machine and demonstrate the decrease in cost," Brother's Phil Jones explained.
These comments come soon after Brother launched its LC61BK printer ink cartridge.

Regular printers looking for top quality results from their ink cartridges may wish to look at the options available from Brother.
According to the manufacturer, the LC51BK Black Compatible Print Cartridge provides owners with enough ink to last for approximately 500 pages on five per cent coverage. Meanwhile, print quality is maintained through the print head being regularly kept clean by the MFC, with this process only using a small amount of ink.
Other factors that businesses may find affect their print quality include the choice of paper, with the best option being those developed to control ink absorption and to have resistance to wrinkling. Furthermore, individuals may want to play close attention to where they store their printouts, as exposure to light could have a bearing on final quality.
It is advised that any printed copies of information are kept in a dark, dry and cool place, with the more intense the light shining on the document, the faster it is likely to fade. Alternatively, those looking for sharper and clearer results from their printer ink may prefer the Brother LC41C cartridge.

The team at expertreviews.co.uk has given the Brother DCP-365CN a solid, if unspectacular review
The printer reviewing team at expertreviews.co.uk has given the Brother DCP-365CN printer a solid, if unspectacular review because it is costly to run and has print quality issues.
Despite costing under £100 the printer can still do all the things needed by any home office worker, such as running off quick photocopies and connecting to a network via an ethernet cable.
It uses four individual ink cartridges inserted behind a panel at the front from where ink is pumped to the print head inside the device but according to the review team its page speeds per minute rate was disappointing.
In a summary on the product the reviewer said: "Ultimately, the DCP-365CN is unremarkable, except for its price. With slow print speeds and relatively high costs, Canon's Pixma MX340 has more features and better print quality for not much more money."
This review was in stark contrast to that from itreviews.co.uk for the Canon PIXMA MP270 all-in-one which was commended for its affordability and reliability.

A court in Dusseldorf has backed Brother in a patent dispute in Germany
German courts in Dusseldorf have issued preliminary injunctions against two local ink cartridge manufacturers in a dispute of patents with global printer and ink cartridge producer Brother.
The injunctions prohibit Pelikan Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH & Company and German Hardcopy AG from selling specific ink cartridges which Brother has accused of infringing on its intellectually property (IP) rights.
A representative of the global firm said: "Since July 2008, Brother has been selling ink cartridges model references LC 980 and LC1100 in Germany. Brother has found that Pelikan and Geha were marketing ink cartridges which were compatible to LC 980 and LC 1100, which Brother believes were infringing its two IP rights.
"The Brother Group of companies is committed to creating circumstances where our customers can use Brother products with a sense of security. We will continue to vigorously publicize and promote the use of Brother's genuine consumables, in order to ensure the optimum performance of all Brother products."
In December last year, the firms were involved in a similar IP rights infringement suit after Brother accused the smaller ink cartridge manufacturers on infringing on patents concerning cartridge model references.

Users who have a Brother inkjet printer could save themselves a lot of money by refilling their ink cartridges rather than buying new ones, according to an industry analyst.
A huge range of models, including the DCP-130C, DCP-540CN, DCP-750DN, MFC-845CW and MFC-850CDN to name but a few, can accommodate the refillable LC 57 cartridges, according to the New Zealand-based Geekzone blog.
Users are however reminded to clean the plastic casing thoroughly when attempting to close the cartridge after refilling it so as to prevent leakages and stains from the ink.
Another tip given by the site is to make sure to hold the ink cartridge steadily upright while refilling it to avoid spillages.
"I didn't hold it upright when taking it to the printer, I wound up with cyan coloured fingers," lamented a reporter for the blog.

A German court has ruled in favour of international printer manufacturer Brother in two patent disputes with local ink cartridge manufacturers.
The suit centred on ink cartridges sold by Pelikan Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH & Company and German Hardcopy AG, which were found to infringe upon Brother's intellectual copyright.
A court in the German city of Dusseldorf ruled against the ink cartridge manufacturers in a number of their products made to be compatible with Brother's printers.
In a statement, the international printing company said: "The Brother group of companies is committed to creating circumstances where our customers can use Brother products with a sense of security.
"We will continue to vigorously publicise and promote the use of Brother genuine consumables, in order to ensure the optimum performance of all Brother products."
Sales of third party ink cartridges have rocketed over the past two years as consumers look for better deals on the pricey products.

Printer manufacturer Brother has released a new all-in-one printer.
What makes this unit different to the firm's 15 other all-in-one models is that it combines several different office tools into one, providing a cost effective and space-saving unit.
As well as allowing users to connect via wireless as well as traditional Ethernet and USB, the printer includes both a phone and a fax machine, along with a scanner.
However, the model is thought to suffer from slower printing times than its manufacturer claims.
Simon Williams of product review website Trusted Review said that while Brother claims speeds of 35 mono pages or 28 colour sheets per minute, tests on the machine found slower times.
He added: "Our five-page black text document took one minute 46 seconds to complete, which is equivalent to a speed of 2.83ppm [pages per minute]. The longer, 20-page test took six minutes 45 seconds, or 2.96ppm and the five-page black text and colour graphics job took two minutes five seconds, or 2.40ppm."
