My Epson RX685 looks great!! I have printed the perfect photos and could not complain about the quality or speed. The ink is used spareingly yet there is never any lack of quality. The compatible ink cartridges make the printer give a warning about not using original cartridges, dont worry about it!!! Hi there, I have just purchased the above model, once set up all appears good & I’m up to now very impressed at the ease that you can carry out the various tasks throughout the menu. One small lapse at the start prevented this from being a smooth transfer from the 915 model to this new unit it was the non acceptance of one of the cartridges by the printer, this required another journey back to the shop which supplied it, (doubt on their minds as to whether a mere “silver surfer” could install the unit correctly), and returning the following day. The printer was bought as much as a birthday gift as anything else & the misgivings on the day I set it up had to be seen to be believed, it was not a popular choice at that time(although we now look forward to many years of use). It is pleasant to be asked your thoughts on a product & to believe that your thoughts may in some way affect the results of someone else purchasing this product. Keith Young

I have had this printer for a while now and am impressed with the quality of the photos I print. I make all my own greeting cards and it is very good for that sort of work too. I have just used it to print on a CD and DVD and it is brilliant – very easy once you have the correct media. J Walker

Print quality is brilliant but the front paper tray is a bit of a pain. It is not happy with heavy photo paper, keeps asking for paper when it is already loaded. Virtually no notice when a print cartridge is about to expire, it just stops printing with a message you've run out of ink.

On the minus side, the most annoying feature of the Epson RX685 is the lack of warning before an ink cartridge is empty, the printer just stops printing often part way through a page which then has to be re-loaded to print again and the page-numbering continuity is lost.  The print speed is nothing like that advertised, the scan to file Twain interface is not as good as my old 950 & 960, and to print a draft CD label much more awkward.  The CD print facility uses the same file format as my old 950 & 960 but for some reason Epson re-named the file extension.  However, simply changing the .ec1 to .ec3 does the trick. That being said, the print quality is very good, and the two-tray facility and scan-to-print features very useful. I would have given this printer 9/10 but the agravation factors due to the minus points and file extension reduce this to 7/10.
