| Your Reviews For The R285 So Far |
|
I bought this to replace an Epson R200. It prints just as well and picks up 'coated paper' more consistently. It has a rather boxy, plasticy, 'Eastern European' aesthetic about it but does the job it is asked to. (I haven't tried the CD printer yet.) However... the noise! I had read about this issue in other reviews but thought 'how noisy can a printer be?'. Very. It really is not suitable if you keep your printer in a shared living room or bedroom. If you plan to leave behind a quick "Dear John..." letter, as you sneak out before break of dawn, better to just hand-write it. C.S. |
My Comments :-Epson Stylus Photo R285 is a very good printer but when it runs out of one colour you can not use the printer until you renew the one ink colour it does not give you a warning that you are running out of ink the red light comes on and that is it the Printer becomes Dead |
Smooth sleek businessman like model. Epson R285 was new when I bought it and is still going strong, not a single snag as yet. The ink cartridge use is relatively slow, be careful though, Epson seem to give the warning of low ink a bit too late! Like on the last possible page of clarity which can be a bit disheartening |
I have an Epson R285. I have found it to be a good printer, my only complaints are I wish the cartridges were bigger and not chipped. I give it 8 out of 10 Peter Dorrington |
hi , excellent printer , isnt to keen on cheaper photo papers, but with the right paper the results are amazing ,look as though they have been done by photo processers , software could be better for creativity , having had 2 previous epsons the software for calendars etc was better, overall happy Steve Wright |
The Epson R285 is a good printer with good results. The one downfall is the cost and longevity of the Epson Ink Cartridges. They are apalling. P.E.Wiles |
THE EPSON R285 IS A FANTASTIC PRINTER, BUT THE ONLY THING I DONT LIKE ABOUT IT IS IT DRINKS INK, NEVER KNOWN A PRINTER USE INK SO QUICK, ALSO CARTRIDGES ALOT DEARER THEN OTHERS THANKS ANTONY BUXTON |
I have recently purchased the above machine, and so far appears to give good results. It is quicker than my old R200 but slightly noisier.Generally happy would give it 8/10 |
I bought my Epson Photo R285 because I was sick of paying Canon prices for ink. I had not realised how superior the print quality was going to be. It knocked me out. Plus! it was on offer at PC world for £50 instead of £75. Thank you Epson for that wonderful quality, but please keep the ink prices at a reasonable level. |
I have always used Epson because the photo quality is great, and the compatible carts are cheap. However I have to say that the heads on these get blocked and then it's a complete nightmare of cleaning cycles, nozzle checks and bin! I print hundreds of sheets a month and have had to buy 3 printers this year all with the same print head problems. i would definitely recommend an Epson for those who only use occasionally but for those who require their printer top work for them, this is not the printer to buy! Carmen From The Editor :- Because Epson's printers *normally* use ink tanks the print heads are not replaced like they are on HP or Lexmark printers. This means that print heads can become blocked over time (it also means that the cartridges are cheaper). To combat this print head problem we sell Clean Cartridges filled with a special cleaning solution to break down the dried ink from around your print heads. I highly recommend these. |

I have an Epson stylus photo R285 and I am sick of how quickly the ink runs out. I bought the printer mainly because it prints directly to CD but I do not use it that much for this. I also do not like it when it won't print in black if one of the other colours have run out. |
The R285 printer so far as been one of the best Epson printers I have had for printing high quality photographs. I have tried a lot of compatible inks for my Epson printer, but the inks I have off Internet-ink.co.uk far exceed the capabilities of other inks tried. Mike Timms |
I have been using Internet-ink over a number of years in at least 4 Epson printers including my present one Epson R285 and my photos have been of a very of a very good quality and with no complaints. Although once the printer rejected the Light Magenta & Magenta so I replaced them and it seemed to work again - but lost 2 cartridges in the process. Everything is working again, I have just placed another order for more of the E0801-05 series still getting good results. Thank you! Bill Patton |
Prints v. well on the paper it likes but choosy and however much you try will not take heavy weight paper. Drinks ink so I use compatibles but it doesn't take kindly to them. Put in all compats. Don't mix. When it's good it's v.v.good, but when the R285 is bad it's either running ink on the wrong paper or smearing because of mucky heads or 'out of ink'. The preview isn't the same as the printout - don't try to put narrow borders/frames. I've used other photo printers - this is later so should be the best. Mary Hassall |
